Rebecca Lewis: Administration and Marketing Assistant
As of September, Rebecca has been a member of Steps Training Ltd for a year. We’re thrilled to have her as part of our team!
I found the job opening on the Jobs Growth Wales website. The position caught my eye as it seemed like the company genuinely cared about improving working conditions for those who experience conflict in their job role.
I applied for the position through the website, and was very happy to receive a reply asking me to attend an interview. I was asked by Katie to send over improvements that could be made on their website.
Having studied Media Production at university, I have a bit of web design knowledge so I was able to use what I had learnt to give a constructive critique of their website. I pointed out things that I would change, and how I would change them.
The interview process was professional, but had a relaxed atmosphere. (Steve and Katie didn’t even mind that I turned up about 5 minutes late, due to getting lost, and with laddered tights!) Despite turning up feeling a little bit more stressed than I would have liked to have been, they were very welcoming and gave me 10 minutes to compose myself whilst I read over the interview questions.
A company dedicated to making an improvement
I studied Psychology and Sociology in school, and having done my research by looking at Steps’ website, I could see that their training would interest me. Having worked in previous roles where aspects of staff safety were sometimes overlooked, it was nice to see a company that was dedicated to making an improvement in this area.
My role was developed around what I could bring to it. The advert that they posted had the typical requirements of an administration and marketing role – answering the phone, booking appointments, responding to emails etc., but once I had settled into that, I was given the chance to refresh my basic web design skills and now I am responsible for updating the website. I also play a role in designing conference materials, banners and marketing materials that we use.
In future, I hope to develop my role further in Steps Training, and improve my skills in the marketing side of my job role.
